Connect & Open Up: Evolution of a researcher's data management practices: from data hazard to data steward
Date: 27 June 2025 @ 14:00 - 15:00
Timezone: Amsterdam
In this Connect & session, Bjørn Bartholdy (visiting researcher at Leiden University, Faculty of Archaeology and data steward at Delft University) will speak about his experience of making his data accessible, transparent, and reproducible.
Evolution of a researcher's data management practices: from data hazard to Data Steward
This is the story of a researcher who was unfamiliar with good practice in Research Data Management (RDM). Despite this, the stubborn researcher ignored the available training and support and set out on a dangerous road with risks of data-loss and needless repetition of tasks at every corner. Everything changed during an eye-opening Open Science webinar, leading the once clueless researcher down a path of RDM enlightenment, and into a wonderful world of backups, open standards, and reproducibility. Now the researcher spends his days supporting and training other researchers in good RDM practice.
About this session
The main session consists of an interactive presentation of ca 30 minutes, followed by time for questions and discussion. After one hour there is extra time for continuing the discussion with those who wish to stay a bit longer. The target audience are Leiden University staff who engage in training on data management or related topics like open science, but the session is open to anyone with an interest in the topic. If you are a member of the Leiden University Research Data Management Community, you will have received an invitation by email. If you are not a member, or did not receive the email, you can register through this form.
About the Connect & sessions
This event is part of the “Connect and …” series arranged by, and for, the Leiden University Research Data Management Community, on everything data management-related. The sessions take place every month at different days and times, so as to maximize access according to people’s different working hours, and are normally online. Topics and speakers are proposed by members of the Community. You can post a suggestion in the Community's MSTeams space, or write to datamanagement@library.leidenuniv.nl, if you have a topic you would like to discuss in a future meeting and the CDS team will help to make it happen.
