Leiden University has Read & Publish deals with many publishers that allow researchers to read journals and publish open access articles in them at no additional cost. In this interactive lunch lecture, we’ll help you navigate Read & Publish deals as an author, explain the rationale behind these agreements, and discuss specific terminology they use. No prior knowledge of open access publishing is needed to join this talk. Bring your questions and curiosity along!

Topics we'll discuss include: What are the benefits and goals of these deals? Why do Dutch universities participate in most deals, but opt out of some? How do you find out which journals are included in the deals? What are hybrid models, AAMs, and ‘caps’? And more.

Instructors: Heleen Palmen, Fleur Praal

Target audience: researchers – including PhD researchers – research support staff, policy advisors and open access enthusiasts
